Lastolite Kickerlite Review

The KickerLite is Lastolites latest offering to appeal particularly to the studio photographer. In essence, it is a softbox designed to rest on the floor, making it simple to fill in shadows on models for both full-length body shots as well as for close-up portraiture. Simple to set up and operate, the KickerLite features an H frame to support and position a monobloc flashhead inside. The frame is also used to attach and position a silver reflector to help bounce and diffuse the light through the front screen. It is very straightforward to pack away for storage or take out on location, as it folds away like a standard Lastolite reflector and fits into a portable bag.

VERDICT: Fashion, portrait or catalogue photographers will undoubtedly benefit from using the KickerLite. It enables precise and powerful fill-in control that the humble reflector sometimes cant manage. Photographers working on location should also benefit fromits capabilities as it can be operated with a flashgun or two, as well as battery operated flashheads, and it is much less likely to blow over than an umbrella or softbox supported on a stand.

Lastolite Uplite 4:1 Review

The new UpLite 4:1 is a reflector system for photographers working in the studio or out on location. Flatpacked in one of Lastolites ubiquitous blue bags, it is trouble free to set up. It takes just a few minutes to screw the supports together and to Velcro the two reflectors to form a hinge. The support is then clipped to the reflectors where it can be adjusted to alter the angle and bounce lighting into a subject from as low as 30 degrees, or at a 90 degrees right angle. There are two UpLite kits and both feature two 120x90cm double-sided reflectors, giving you a choice of four different surfaces to bounce light off.The Cool Tone kit features an array ofWhite, SoftSilver, Silver and SunLite reflective surfaces, while theWarmTone kit offersWhite, Silver, Sunfire and Gold surfaces. Both kits also include a black waterproof cover that will protect the reflector when standing it on a dirty studio floor or on damp ground outdoors.

VERDICT:This product is as straightforward as it is ingenious. It enables photographers to accurately angle a reflector, so that any unsightly shadows on a subject can be suitably filled in with a choice of four different reflector surfaces. If you work alone without an assistant to hold your reflector, youll find the UpLite 4:1 particularly useful. In fact, even if you do have an assistant, this device would free them up to do something else more useful instead.

Billingham 07 Series Review

There is something essentially British about the Billingham brand. Its latest offering, the 07 Series Camera bag, certainly appears to have inherited the same distinctive styling of its predecessors.

Available in three sizes and two colour combinations, it features a design tweak to the front leather tabs that ensure the bag remains firmly closed. There are also two integral carbon fibre wands that help maintain the bags shape and enable easy access once its open.

This new series is made out of Billinghams cutting-edge FibreNyte material that still looks like its traditional canvas fabric but offers more durability, lighter weight and an improved waterproofing. The interior of the largest bag features padded, moveable dividers so kit is more than adequately protected.

Theres enough room for a DSLR and at least three lenses, with space left over for a couple of accessories. The front features two pouches and the back has a zipped compartment.

VERDICT: This bag certainly evolves the Billingham product range sensitively. It retains the core values of quality and craftsmanship that will surely satisfy the more discerning customers.

The flap of this main compartment has some extra pockets for accessories too. It is amazing how much you can fit in."
