Polarising filters allow you to remove reflections fron non-metallic surfaces, like glass and water etc. They also enable colours to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contarast and saturation of blue skies and white clouds. The Cokin P164 is the standard circular polarising filter for use with auto focus film and digital cameras, as well as some manual cameras with advanced metering like the Canon T90.
